Genre research

 Genre: Romance

The usual age for the target audience of a Romance movie is usually females ages 13-30 and older.  This is because of the light-hearted nature of romance films. These films are usually based around the female character so it mostly attracts a female audience. Girls sometimes find these films relatable, due to heartaches and boy problems.

Two basic elements make up every romance story; a central love story and an optimistic ending. The main plot usually centers around people falling in love and struggling to make the relationship work. In a romance, the individuals who struggle for each other and their relationship are rewarded with unconditional love. A typical romance film includes sexuality, status, and relationships.

Romance films normally include happy music throughout, and softer and slower music in intense, sad moments. There aren't any sound effects like they are usually in horror movies. Another convention of a romance film is the camera angles.  It will normally consist of medium-wide to wide shots, and sometimes some close-ups to extreme close-ups for dramatic effect. The storyline is more important than the way it is told.

Romance movies are marketed by using cursive fonts and deep colors. A scene of the characters arguing and then a scene of them being happy together. Usually slow music and emotional scenes are used.

The Notebook is one of the most popular romance movies. It is about Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) and Allie (Rachel McAdams) who are in love but her parents don't approve. When Noah goes away to serve in World War II, Allie gets involved with another man but when Noah returns years later, it becomes evident that their romance is not over. This film embodies the romance genre because it shows two individuals that are in love but have to overcome challenges, in this case, Noah going away to fight in the war and Allie marrying someone else. At the end of the movie they find their way back to each other and get a happy ending like typical romance movies.

Everything, Everything is a romance film about Maddy (Amandla Stenberg) an 18-year-old who is unable to leave her hermetically-sealed environment within her house because of an illness. Olly (Nick Robinson) is her next-door neighbor who won't let that stop them from being together. Looking through windows and talking through texts, Maddy and Olly form a bond that results in them risking everything to be together, even if it means losing everything.

Some other examples of romance movies are Call me by your name, Dear John,Little women, perks of being a wallflower, The Great Gatsby, and Pride and prejudice.
